3 Great Ways to Experience the City of Light

With nearly 3000 hours of sunshine a year, Alicante is the so-called ‘city of light’. If you like mild winters and very hot summers, this is your ideal destination.

Try the Local Favourites

Alicante is the perfect place to visit at any time of the year.  Enjoy a cold beer and some nice tapas on a terrace during the day – it rarely rains and the sun is usually out, or treat yourself to a delicious cocktail while you enjoy the night life.

If you go to Alicante you have to try the ‘arroz del senyoret’ or ‘arroz a banda’ which is a variant of the typical paella seafood –  you can try this at one of the restaurants in the port while you enjoy the view, it’s simply delicious.

Get Your Bearings

Don’t miss the culture and local architecture. Begin your sightseeing at Plaza del Ayuntamiento (City Hall) and walk around the neighbourhood that leads up to the castle. You will enjoy a fantastic view not  only of the cute houses, but also of the whole city and especially the marina, which is absolutely spectacular.

When you arrive at the top of Santa Barbara’s castle, visit the MUSA (Alicante City’s Museum) to learn a little about Alicante’s history.

On the way to town, stop by at ‘La Ereta’ park, where you’ll come across a beautiful view from the city as well as many native plants and, once you’re here, you can have dinner at the panoramic ‘La Ereta’ restaurant. Here you can enjoy a tasting menu of traditional-fusion cuisine. You might need to book a table in advance though as it’s very popular.

Shopping is good in Alicante too – you can walk up and down Maisonnave Avenue where you’ll find all the pret-a -porter shops as well as ‘El Corte Ingles’, a big shopping centre where you can purchase clothes and accessories from the top designers and even consult with a personal shopper.

Visit the Urban Beach

If you’re visiting Alicante during the summer months, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the fantastic city beach, ‘El Postiguet’. When you’re done with sunbathing, just take a walk to ‘La Explanada’ and try our fantastic ‘horchata’ drink. You’ll never try anything as sweet and refreshing, I assure you.

Alicante is the perfect place to escape from your routine and enjoy the unbeatable weather, amazing cuisine and lovely views.

Travel tip: As soon as you land at Alicante airport you can catch the city bus which will take you to the city centre in approximately 15 minutes – it’s definitely the cheapest option.
