Nice’s Nicest Ices – Fennochio Glacier
If you’re in Nice, you have to go to Fennochio Glacier to try some of their amazing flavours – missing it would be like going to London and not seeing Big Ben. I spent the last weekend of April in Nice, with nine other hens and a bride-to-be. It’s a great place for a hen party – loads of fun, very pretty, there’s so much to do in the city, and you’re right on the Cote d’Azure – but a real highlight for me was this ice cream shop and its incredible flavours.
They have more flavours than any ice cream shop I’ve ever seen, I think there are almost a hundred. Obviously they have all the classic fruity flavours, but they have crazy flavours too like Tomato and Basil, Liquorice, Cactus, and ‘Flower of Orange Tree’. I wasn’t too daring when I chose my flavours, but I was decadent – I’m a chocaholic, so I went for the Ferrero Rocher and Kinder flavour ice creams. The flavours were absolutely spot-on, but the Ferrero Rocher one was the winner for me.
Fenocchio’s is in Place Rossetti, which is a really pretty part of the city – a lovely square with shops and restaurants, a fountain, a church, and plenty of people milling around. It’s a grand place to sit and watch the world go by while you eat your ice cream. You can get a cone with two scoops for under a fiver. I think it’s €5 for three scoops in a cone actually, so if you can’t make up your mind between all the flavours it’s not too expensive to try a few different options until you find your ultimate flavour. They do bigger desserts as well that you could share between a few people, but in my opinion you can’t beat a nice cone all for yourself! I’d go back just to eat it again…
