Berlin’s Rooftop Bar Scene
Berlin is great for many things – clubbing, shopping, history, culture – whatever you want it’s there (apart from the sea), but what I like the most about Berlin is the awesome nightlife, especially the rooftop bars, where you can enjoy the city from a height and experience stunning views and believe me Berlin’s skyline looks amazing from above.
When it’s sunny the Hotel de Rome roof terrace is the perfect spot. Chilling outside with a homemade iced tea or Weiβbier makes you forget about anything you want to forget about and embrace the beauty of life.
Start your evening in the sun with a Weiβbier overlooking the centre of Berlin. If you are into sightseeing – this is not too far from the Brandenburg Gate or the famous Hotel Adlon Kempinski, where Queen Elizabeth visited in June this year.
After a sunny Weiβbier, why not experience real heights? Berlin is home to Germany’s highest building (368m) the TV-tower at Alexanderplatz where you can dine from 7pm onwards in the restaurant Sphere. If you prefer to save your money (and maybe eat a Currywurst instead) you can go up to the tower’s Bar 203 just for a drink. Tickets to get to the top are available from €13 onwards.
The TV-Tower doesn’t just offer stunning views from the top, it’s an impressive building to look at in its own right. There’s another rooftop bar quite close to it where you can admire its architecture – in the Park Inn at Alexanderplatz you pay a €7 entrance. From here you can see amazing sunsets.
Later, there are many outdoor bars to choose from if you want to extend the night. I’d recommend Klunkerkranich, where you can listen to the newest tunes from the Berlin DJ scene on the roof terrace of the Neukölln Arcaden Shopping Centre. Solar Skybar in Kreuzberg is another good spot – you can literally hang around on a swing-seat while sipping your favourite cocktail.
